2023 Tennessee Open Rules and Playing Room Etiquette

The following pertains to two checker tournaments held in Lebanon, Tennessee every year. This Tennessee Open is held on the first Friday and Saturday in March.  The Southern States Tournament is held on the second Friday and Saturday after July 4th .  Each tournament consists of seven rounds with four rounds played on Friday and three on Saturday.

The registration for each tournament begins at 8 am on Friday. A business meeting will follow at 9 am. The first round will begin immediately following the business meeting.  The start time and finish time will be posted for each round.  Any player more than 15 minutes late for a round will forfeit the first game. Any player more than an hour late will forfeit both games.

Each round consists of two games. In a game, a win is two points, a draw is one point, and a loss is zero points. A round can last for a maximum of two and half hours.  If the first game is not finished in an hour and fifteen minutes, either player may request that the first game be recorded and the second game started.  No moves can be made after two and a half hours.  The outcome of any unfinished game will be decided by a computer using Kingsrow.  A rating of 60 or above is a win.

When appropriate, honor points will be used to determine places.  The first bye a player may receive will be worth three points and any successive byes will be worth two points.  There will be no repairing until the last round, if possible.

The use of a cell phone in the laying room is discouraged.  You are encouraged to record your games. When someone withdraws from a round robin, each player who has yet to play that withdrawn player will receive the average of the points received by those who have actually played with the withdrawn player.
